Friendships With People and Plants
We, your officers and board members of Spalding Garden Club, began our 2nd year in office this March, 2018. Our 2-year theme is “Friendships with People and Plants”. I have enjoyed getting to know many of you better this year as we have our board meetings, general meetings, field trips and workshops. Thank you for opening your homes and gardens to us for the board meetings and Sip-N-Sees. We accepted three new members in February 2018 and one new member in April 2018. We have 49 active members, and 11 Friends of Spalding that pay dues to the Garden Club of Georgia,
To join in the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the Garden Club of Georgia, Spalding Garden Club bought a Weeping Cherry Tree to be planted in the landscape at the Donaldson-Bannister House Property on Chamblee Dunwoody Rd. Thank you to our founding member, Alice O’Neil, who sought out the perfect spot and tree to donate in acknowledgement of this milestone.
I hope many of you have made new friends this past year as we enjoyed our programs and social activities. We look forward to the upcoming summer Sip-N-Sees in members’ gardens, and to the fall and winter general meetings with the wonderful speakers Martha Barze has arranged for us to hear on many gardening topics. Were you inspired to try a new annual or perennial in your garden or containers after seeing the plants at our April meeting? Garden clubs are a wonderful place to make friends with ladies and plants that will be treasured for a lifetime.

Spalding Garden Club Plants milkweed to help our
For over two years Spalding Garden Club has been planting Aesclepias, or milkweed, under the power lines in Dunwoody. With the help of Georgia Power's horticulturist, we have planted hundreds of seedlings in several locations within our community. Aesclepias is a host plant for the Monarch and we are following a national trend in encouraging these beautiful gifts of nature to thrive.

Spalding Garden Club took the proceeds of our Candlelight Christmas Tour in 2015 and created a beautiful enhancement to the community post office by planting a xeriscape garden and improving a much needed area of our city.
